Wife
Clara frantically sets a table with the best china, prepares dinner,
and urges the rest of the family to “dress up.” Immediately, all
are suspicious and fear the worst. Sure enough, Clara is busy
matchmaking, desperately hoping her all-too-liberated daughter Sylvia
will find their decent, educated dinner guest to be the perfect
spouse. Sylvia, as well as the rest of the clan, wants no part of this
forced-march-towards-marital-bliss. But amid all the commotions,
maneuvers, and near-escapes, it is forgotten that no one really knows
this young and all-too-manly “mystery guest.” Rumor has it he
works as an attendant in a morgue, redundantly calming the deceased!
In fact, his appearance, not to mention his real occupation, are cause
for true alarm, if not outright scandal.
In
Heaven Sent, what begins as a pedestrian family drama spins
wildly out of control into a hilarious spree of misunderstanding,
misrepresentation, and breathless misalliance, even before dinner is
served! As confusion and tension mount, questions chase after answers.
For example, is it wise to give an already dangerously unfocused
grandfather a full bottle of straight whisky in order to calm his
nerves? Should a son disrobe on stage to serve the Higher Purpose of
Art? Is it right for a daughter to dress up like a tart in order to
scare off a future husband when in fact, he may be looking for such a
woman to support him? And finally, is “Bartholomew” an appropriate
name for a dinner guest who has so little to hide, he doesn’t even
bother to?!
Heaven
Sent is
fast-paced fun, driven by a family of characters: zany, distinct, and
all too recognizable! It also portrays a world where traditional
values collide with new ones, slyly suggesting that - beneath the
surface - they are not so very different.

“A
hilarious blend of misunderstanding and the generation gap.
A play that is guaranteed to keep you laughing”
